Day 1: Hanoi - Lang Son - Quang Uyen (L, D)
Ban Gioc waterfall
Our driver will pick you up at your hotel in Hanoi at around 7:30-8am and begin our drive to Lang Son. Our drive to the Chinese border will take about 3 hours, and we’ll make a stop in Chi Lang, which is deeply associated with a great Vietnamese historical victory. You’ll have an hour to explore the fascinating structure of Quy Mon Quan gate (translated as “Gate of Monsters”) which was considered the strongest citadel in all of Vietnam and in this capacity it withstood many invasions and attacks.
After lunch in a restaurant in Dong Dang, we continue with a visit to Mother’s Temple and Dong Khe, site of a famous battle during the First Indochina War in September/October 1950 which resulted in a Viet Minh victory.
You’ll have dinner and overnight in a Nung homestay in Quang Uyen.

Day 2: Cao Bang - Ban Gioc Waterfall - Ba Be Lake (B, L, D)
Nguom Ngao cave, Cao Bang
We depart our Nung hosts after breakfast and head for Trung Khanh on the border with China. Here we’ll visit the mountainous village of Phuoc Sen, also populated by Nung people and famous for its traditional blacksmithing.
Here, nestled amongst amazing landscapes is Ban Gioc Waterfall. Spanning over 300 meters, half in Vietnam and half in China, it is the 4th biggest frontier waterfall in the world. We’ll spend some time here before moving on to Nguom Ngao Cave, a natural wonder which stretches for 2144 meters underground, brimming with stalagmites and stalactites the whole way.
Finally we return to Cao Bang and snake along the passes to Ba Be Lake, where you’ll have dinner and enjoy an overnight stay at our homestay in Pac Ngoi.

Day 3: Ba Be Lake - Hanoi (B, L)
Ba Be Lake, Ba Be National Park
After breakfast we set out on a boat-trip across Ba Be Lake and up the winding Nang River. Eventually we’ll reach Puong Cave which is famous for its array of stalactites and stalagmites. After exploring the cave, we will drive you back in Hanoi, at which time you can relax and take in the views along the way, before reaching Hanoi around 5:30pm.
